Beginner Courses

From April we run two beginner courses. 

The cost of the course is £100 and includes a copy of The BBKA (British Beekeepers Association) Guide to Beekeeping book.

The course comprises of an 8 hour classroom session followed by two visits to the apiary*

Classroom sessions are being held on a Sunday with two dates available in April.

Beginners will be required to have a bee suit, marigold gloves and boots or wellingtons.

Course content includes;

* Beekeeping and the colony

* Types and components of a hive

* The beekeeping year

* Queens, drones and swarms

* Colony health

Beginners will finish the course with the knowledge and ability to conduct a full hive inspection, and be ready for getting started with their own hive

* Beginners are then welcome to come along to the apiary sessions for the rest of the summer for further learning and support.

Course Dates 

April 2025

This year we are holding two separate beginner courses, each course will be a one day classroom session at St.Peters Hall, Woodhall Spa. The cost is £100 per person and £60 for 16yrs and under* (*must attend with an adult please) 

Apiary sessions will then be held on Saturday afternoons at the club apiary near Walcott as and when the weather allows.

Dates: 

Sunday 13th April 2025 8.30am-4.30pm (lunch provided) and from the end of April onwards, two Saturday sessions, dates TBC * 

or

Sunday 27th April 2025 8.30am-4.30pm (lunch provided) and from the end of April onwards, two Saturday sessions, dates TBC * 

*this will always be subject to change as it has to be warm enough to open the hives. Attendance at two of these sessions is required to complete the course. 

If you miss a designated Saturday, the club tends to meet most Saturdays anyway, so the time and experience can be made up with prior agreement.

 

 

 

Visit the hives, and quite literally lift the lid on the art of keeping bees and making honey.
